ROUTINE VISITS

Greater emphasis is now placed on herd health and production management than ever before.  Preventative healthcare is just as important as treating the sick, being proactive, rather than reactive is the key to a successful herd.

Regular routine visits are encouraged on our dairy farms. This involves coming out to your farm on a regular basis and dealing with any health and welfare concerns, both in individual animals and the herd as a whole.

A large part of the visit is usually devoted to fertility work.  Individual cows are presented for genital tract examination to determine fertility status or examination post-calving.  ‘Problem’ cows can be treated and monitored.  As well as these clinical examinations, the importance of regular data analysis is fundamental to improving and monitoring fertility performance in dairy herds.  A routine visit can also be a time for discussion and recommendations from your vet.

TB TESTING

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is the disease in cattle that results from infection with M. bovis bacteria, and is one of the most complex animal health problems currently facing the farming industry in Great Britain.

TB testing is a legal requirement for all cattle.  Notification that a test is due, is sent to both you and us.  Failing to comply with the test requirements will mean your farm will be ‘shut down’ by DEFRA and no animals can be moved on or off the premises.

For more information on TB testing requirements see www.defra.gov.uk or look at the booklets below.
