Whether it is a single Angus, several mixed sucklers, or a pedigree herd of highlands, Girling and Bowditch have been providing a personal service tailored to the individual needs of the farming community in Beaminster and its surrounding areas for many years.
We routinely provide pregnancy diagnosis, castrations, disbudding, foot trimming, and blood sampling.
Pregnancy diagnosis is carried out with a fully mobile up-to-date scanner at any point during pregnancy giving an indication of how many calves are expected that year.
Bull fertility testing can be arranged prior to buying a new bull or should there be a query with a current bull. This looks at aspects such as testicle size, penile anatomy and semen quality. We do recommend, should you be buying a new bull, that you meet with us to discuss blood sampling for certain diseases prior to purchase to avoid importaning diseases into your herd. This applies to cows aswell.
Blood testing is often carried out for herd accreditation schemes. These schemes prove accredicted herds are free of the diseases tested for, which often includes BVD, leptospirosis, IBR and Johnes. Accreditation schemes involve blood testing at regular intervals but alot of pedigree societies now recommend that members become accredited free of disease.
